Caesarstone 4011 Cloudburst Concrete was chosen for this east London kitchen extension, effortlessly complementing its contemporary look.

When the owner of this terraced house in Walthamstow, east London, approached ROAR Architects, her brief was simple: designing a light-filled and stylish rear extension that would work as a multifunctional space for a young professional. Housing a contemporary kitchen, the extension had to materially match the existing house externally, while providing a modern addition that exposes its timber structure internally to reduce material use and provide a warm and natural backdrop. Caesarstone 4001 Cloudburst Concrete was a natural choice for the worktop, perfectly complementing the sleek cabinetry and unique aesthetic of the room.

ROAR Architects’ project involved a reconfiguration of the internal layout to create a sociable kitchen for entertaining, with bifold doors that open up directly onto the patio and garden. To bring plenty of natural light into the space and maximise the garden views and ceiling height, the shape of the extension is a simple asymmetric pitched roof, reaching three metres internally from floor to ceiling at its highest point.

These features have provided the owner with a bold backdrop and an adaptable gallery to display everyday items and décor elements in a personal and unusual way.

The timber structure has been balanced with a two-toned pink kitchen by Panelven Kitchens, inspired by the owner’s personality and love of colour. Bringing warmth and a pop of brightness to the otherwise neutral space, the cabinetry has been designed following a U-shaped layout, with a peninsula offering definition between the kitchen area and dining space. Topping the whole cabinetry, the Cloudburst Concrete surface extends over the peninsula to create a seamless breakfast bar overhang, where the owner can sit to enjoy quick meals, catch up with family and friends, work from home or simply do some reading.

Elevating the kitchen, Cloudburst Concrete not only complements the soft colour scheme, but also adds a touch of timeless elegance. Finding the right balance of materials and tones was crucial in this contemporary kitchen, and Cloudburst Concrete effortlessly achieves this delicate equilibrium. The soft, neutral tones, subtle veining and concrete-inspired aesthetic of the worktop create a beautiful harmony with the blush tones of the cabinetry, adding depth and sophistication to the overall aesthetic.
