Caesarstone 5143 White Attica was selected for this modern and stylish open-plan kitchen

In the heart of Woodingdean, just 10 minutes from Central Brighton, a young couple embarked on a journey to transform their recently purchased detached bungalow into a modern haven. Enlisting the expertise of The Kitchen Store Brighton & Hove, the couple's vision of a dual-function contemporary kitchen came to life, featuring the timeless look and hardwearing properties of Caesarstone.

Briefed to create a clean, contemporary space, Kevin Allen, Design Manager at The Kitchen Store Brighton & Hove, designed a modern handleless scheme with a simple yet striking colour palette inspired by nature. Notable features include bronze handle details, a matching Quooker tap, and the centrepiece of the design – Caesarstone’s 5143 White Attica surfaces

The handleless cabinetry, from Masterclass Kitchens’ H Line range, features contrasting tones of wood and off-white, creating an organic, airy ambience. The natural look and feel are enhanced by the White Attica, worktops with its bold grey swirls drawing inspiration from marble. Constantly looking at diverse landscapes, Caesarstone captures the essence of natural elements in every slab, replicating intricate patterns found in traditional stone and bringing the outdoors inside.

A design that transcends mere functionality to become a work of art, White Attica was chosen by Kevin because of its bold veins and warm base, which pair beautifully with the light kitchen doors. Bringing movement and depth to the neutral, minimalist scheme, White Attica was also used as a full-height splashback behind the sink and hob run. This ensured continuity in the design, without overcomplicating the colour palette with additional finishes and materials.

The focal point of the kitchen, the island serves as a versatile area for preparing food, enjoying meals and entertaining, seamlessly integrating into the open-plan living and dining space. The cascading effect of the White Attica waterfall worktop instantly elevates the scheme, helping to transition the island from a functional kitchen feature to a striking design element that elegantly blends in with the rest of the room.

“At The Kitchen Store, we use Caesarstone for a lot of our projects; the colour options are vast, the engineering quality of the surfaces is high and we really trust the product to deliver for our clients. For this design in particular, I knew there were more than enough choices of veined surfaces for the client to choose from”, says Kevin.

Reflecting on the project, Kevin comments, “The limited space available posed a significant challenge. Introducing a utility room massively helped, as it allowed us to move the dishwasher, washing machine and second freezer into this space. This meant that most of the big appliances were removed from the kitchen and dining area, which is now a much more stylish and efficient space for entertaining, as all the dirty plates, bowls and saucepans can be hidden away in the utility room when socialising with guests.”

Mimicking the look of the kitchen, the adjoining utility room features sleek cabinetry and the same White Attica worktop and upstand. In a space where functionality is paramount, Caesarstone surfaces shine. Resistant to stains, scratches and heat, Caesarstone effortlessly weathers the demands of daily chores, ensuring the humble utility room remains as beautiful as the day it was installed. Caesarstone’s durability not only enhances the longevity of the space, but also adds a touch of elegance to a typically overlooked space.

The result is a neutral, contemporary scheme that is carefully considered and beautifully balanced, with Caesarstone emerging as the hero of the design.
