Caesarstone 4011 Cloudburst Concrete adds balance and tranquillity to this contemporary kitchen.

In the vibrant neighbourhood of Stoke Newington, North London, a two-bedroom flat split across two floors has been revamped by Studio Merlin to create a restful home for its founder, Josh Piddock, and his partner.

The kitchen acts as a focal point for the entire home, with a wide galley layout and enough space in the middle to make the whole apartment feel bigger. The goal was to craft a warm yet contrasting ambiance, achieved through a blend of deep blues and softer plaster colours, topped by Caesarstone 4011 Cloudburst Concrete

The renovation was no small feat, involving a strategic redesign that merged two rooms into a spacious L-shaped layout including the kitchen and living areas. By knocking down a wall, the space opened up, allowing for increased storage and welcoming natural light from both front and back entrances.

Josh describes it as “the perfect neutral tone that acts as a bridge between the deep, rich blue cabinets and the warm pink plaster shade of the walls.” He adds, “we wanted a surface with a neutral tone and some variation to offset against the matt painted walls, and Cloudburst Concrete does just that.” The design features soft billowings of pure white on a solid, creamy base for a subtle, yet captivating look. With its soft, natural texture adding depth and character, Cloudburst Concrete mimics the tactile and visual qualities of natural concrete, creating a contemporary and urban feel.

On one side of the kitchen, Cloudburst Concrete tops the sink area, nestled between floor-to-ceiling Ikea cabinetry with Reform CPH fronts. On the other, the worktop runs along matching low-lying cabinets and a small seating nook in the corner, above which are a series of open, pantry-style shelves for displaying recipe books and jars of cooking ingredients.

A further standout detail in this seating corner is the Cloudburst Concrete splashback with curved profiles, mirroring other curves in the adjacent timber joinery. This intentional design choice creates continuity with the rest of the space, tying the kitchen together seamlessly and showcasing meticulous attention to detail.
