Caesarstone’s 4044 Airy Concrete enhances this open-plan family kitchen in Beckenham with its tactile, industrial aesthetic – creating a stylish yet practical hub for modern living.
In this beautifully extended home in South London, bespoke kitchen designer Piqu worked closely with the clients and their architect, Selencky Parsons, to design a kitchen that would seamlessly integrate into the newly created open-plan layout.
With young children in the family, the brief was to craft a space that offered both functionality and sociability, flowing effortlessly between the kitchen, dining area, and a snug that overlooks the garden. “For this project, we spent time understanding the family’s needs and how they use their space,” says Adrian Graves, owner and lead kitchen designer at Piqu. “The result is a kitchen that flows naturally into the adjoining areas, perfect for both entertaining and family life.”At the heart of the design is a generous island topped with Caesarstone’s 4044 Airy Concrete. The island provides ample seating, ensuring the kitchen remains an inclusive space for entertaining while subtly zoning the open-plan environment. To maintain a clean and cohesive look, a tall line of cabinets incorporates a partially concealed door that leads to the utility room – preserving the streamlined aesthetic. The materials for this project were thoughtfully selected to complement the architectural details and the clients’ vision. Caesarstone’s Airy Concrete was chosen for the worktops because of its balance between style and durability. Its authentic, tactile finish pairs beautifully with the warm wood cabinetry, dark units, and painted brickwork, creating a slightly industrial yet sophisticated atmosphere. This selection also enhances the connection between the kitchen and the adjoining spaces, including the wooden flooring in the dining area and the bookcases in the snug. Meanwhile, the external brickwork is visible through large sliding doors, reinforcing the feeling of bringing the outdoors in. Commenting on the growing preference for textured surfaces, Caesarstone’s VP of Marketing, Jonathan Stanley, explains: “Textured surfaces are very on-trend right now, and we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for our urban-inspired surfaces. Our concrete and matte finishes are among the top consumer sample requests, reflecting a broader trend for surfaces that provide both natural tactility and visual interest. As consumers continue to crave a deeper connection to their kitchens, the popularity of these designs only grows.” Beyond its tactile appeal, Caesarstone continues to set the benchmark for design innovation, consistently pushing boundaries to deliver surfaces that not only look beautiful but also perform exceptionally well. From bold, expressive patterns to understated, natural finishes, Caesarstone’s commitment to combining aesthetic excellence with cutting-edge technology ensures its surfaces remain at the forefront of modern design trends. “The client loved the mix of natural materials and Caesarstone’s Airy Concrete for its aesthetic and practicality,” adds Graves. “Its tactile finish, paired with its famed durability and low maintenance, made it an ideal choice for a busy family home.” This cohesive and thoughtfully designed kitchen showcases how durable surfaces like Airy Concrete can elevate both the aesthetics and functionality of a space.
