Anchored by Caesarstone 4001 Fresh Concrete, content creator Sue Caldwell’s kitchen combines Scandinavian minimalism with mid-century warmth, creating a space that’s as practical for daily life as it is inviting for entertaining.
Sue Caldwell, the content creator behind @talltrees.and.scandidreams, and her husband live in a self-build home in Shropshire. Their recently renovated kitchen blends contemporary Scandinavian style with mid-century warmth, anchored by Caesarstone 4001 Fresh Concrete – creating a space that works effortlessly for daily life and entertaining alike. The couple collaborated closely with Anthony Lewis, whose craftsmanship and understanding of their brief helped bring the kitchen’s seamless, furniture-like design to life.
Sue wanted a kitchen that suited the open-plan layout, balancing practicality with a social, welcoming atmosphere. “On a day-to-day basis it’s just the two of us,” Sue explains, “but we also wanted a space that worked for guests and family.” Open shelving was a must – perfect for styling meaningful items and evoking different moods throughout the year.
Dark wood, handleless cabinetry runs from floor to ceiling on one side of the room, almost like furniture rather than a traditional kitchen. Within this seamless wall, clever touches abound: a hidden pantry and a concealed door that leads to a utility room. The central island is large and commanding, positioned to overlook sliding doors that open onto the garden, blending indoor and outdoor living.
At the heart of the kitchen is Caesarstone's Fresh Concrete worktop surfaces, chosen for its crisp white tone with soft grey feathering that adds warmth and organic energy. Its concrete-like finish subtly absorbs light rather than reflecting it, bringing a calm, understated elegance. The surface flows smoothly across the run of cabinetry, up the splashback, onto a shelf, and across the island, providing a sense of continuity throughout the space. It also features inside the breakfast cupboard - a favourite detail that keeps daily essentials tucked away and countertops clutter-free.
Choosing the right surface was an important part of the kitchen design, and the support from Caesarstone made the process straightforward. Sue notes: “After seeing samples of Caesarstone worktops at our kitchen suppliers, we were able to arrange a visit to the showroom where we viewed large, full-size slabs and got help and advice on our choice. Having access to the showroom and an advisor really helped.”
Being able to see the slabs at full scale and speak with an expert gave them confidence in their decision and ensured that Fresh Concrete was the perfect complement to their warm, Scandinavian-inspired kitchen. Caesarstone’s team is always on hand to provide guidance, whether it’s helping you choose a finish, advising on colour combinations, or discussing practical considerations for daily use. This level of support means homeowners can feel confident in their choice and select a surface that truly works for their space and lifestyle.
The kitchen is equipped with carefully selected appliances designed to make cooking and entertaining effortless. A wide induction hob, Neff slide-and-hide ovens, and a Quooker boiling water tap ensure efficiency and convenience, while complementing the clean, contemporary design of the space.
