Porcelain worktops have become increasingly popular recently, and although we might be biased, we think their popularity growth is only going to continue. Thanks to their durability, beauty and versatility, porcelain makes an excellent kitchen surface that suits any home and interior design style.

Although they’re growing in popularity, there are still many misconceptions surrounding porcelain and its use in such a busy area. For many people, this material conjures images of delicate, beautiful pottery and tableware. We’re here to dispel some of the most common myths and explore why you should consider a porcelain kitchen worktop in your home.

Myth 1: Does porcelain chip easily?

A common misconception is that porcelain worktops are fragile and prone to chipping. However, porcelain is actually one of the strongest materials available for kitchen worktops. It is highly resistant to scratches, chips and cracks.

For even more peace of mind, all our porcelain worktops come with a lifetime warranty in residential applications. This is our commitment to you that our high-quality, reliable surfaces can be depended on for many years to come, keeping their timeless beauty.

Myth 2: Is porcelain high maintenance?

Some people believe that porcelain worktops require a lot of maintenance, but again, this just isn’t the case. Porcelain is a low-maintenance and easy-to-clean material thanks to its non-porous and durable nature. Simply wipe down your worktop with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove any dirt or spills.

We do offer a few care & maintenance tips for all of our Caesarstone Porcelain worktops to ensure their timeless performance and appearance:

  • Use your regular home cleaning products – no need to buy anything special
  • Always use a chopping board to avoid accidental damage
  • Wipe up wet spills to prevent a patina from forming
  • Don’t polish the surface, it naturally doesn’t need it
  • Use a trivet or hot pad for extremely hot pots and pans that come straight out of the oven

“413 White Ciment is absolutely beautiful and unique – I’ve had so many compliments already. We’re in love with the worktop as it feels like it completes the kitchen, plus it’s easy to take care of and maintain” - Amar from Hertfordshire.

Myth 3: Is porcelain limited when it comes to design options?

Porcelain is actually available in a vast array of colours, patterns and finishes, from classic whites and creams to veined dark marbles, as well as designs that evoke the appearance of granites or concrete. This allows you to find the perfect style to match your kitchen décor, no matter your style.

At Caesarstone, we also offer a variety of finishes on our porcelain worktops including honed, silk, stone and ultra rough. This change in finish can significantly impact the overall appearance and feel of the worktop so we always recommend requesting a sample or visiting a Caesarstone studio before ordering your worktop so you can see the surface in person.

Myth 4: Is porcelain suitable for outdoor use?

While porcelain is increasingly becoming a popular choice for indoor kitchens, Caesarstone Porcelain worktops are carefully engineered and manufactured to be resistant to UV exposure and suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces. This means that our worktops are resistant to fading in harsh sunlight and other weather, making it the perfect choice for your new outdoor kitchen.

A perfect example of this is how Caesarstone 540 Monumental surfaces were used in this beautiful outdoor country kitchen. Lydia and Ali decided to create the ultimate outdoor kitchen to support their love of gardening, hosting and entertaining, by building a natural extension of their home. By using 540 Monumental, its soft off-white markings and dark-grey veining perfectly contrast with the bespoke oak units and traditional black handles, combining practicality and beauty.

Myth 5: Is porcelain always cold?

One of the biggest myths about porcelain is that it’s cold, which isn’t true. It does however have a high thermal conductivity, meaning it transfers heat more quickly from your hand (for example) than other materials, which is what makes it feel cold.

It’s important to add that a slightly cooler worktop can also be a good thing! Many people find the cooler surface of porcelain refreshing, especially during the warmer months. Plus, if you’re a keen baker, having a colder surface to work on is ideal for keeping those buttery pastries cool while you’re working.

Why choose Caesarstone porcelain worktops?

As well as being durable and easy to maintain, porcelain worktops offer a number of other benefits:

Beautiful and versatile: Our porcelain is available in a wide range of forward-thinking designs, offering striking colour schemes, bolder veins, palpable textures and magnified patterns. This makes it easy to find the perfect worktop to complement your kitchen's style.

Hygienic: Porcelain is non-porous and non-absorbent, which means it does not take in bacteria or other contaminants and is impervious to stains. This makes Caesarstone Porcelain a hygienic choice for your kitchen.

Stain resistant: Porcelain is resistant to stains, even from acidic substances like wine and tomato sauce. Plus, Caesarstone Porcelain is easy to clean with simple soap and water, making it essentially effortless to maintain.
