Caesarstone’s 5810 Black Tempal elevates this modern kitchen with dramatic elegance and texture.

In the heart of Southfields, in South West London, an exquisite kitchen designed by Herringbone House showcases the perfect marriage of contemporary design and timeless elegance. At its centre is Caesarstone 5810 Black Tempal, a choice that epitomises both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality.

The clients, a young family, sought to create a social space for entertaining, positioning the kitchen as the heart of their full house renovation. They wanted a design that would be practical for a family with young children, offering ample storage without the conventional appearance of a kitchen. In order to achieve this, bespoke cabinetry was a key request. Furthermore, durable materials were paramount, ensuring that the kitchen could withstand the hustle and bustle of family life while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. With an abundance of natural light in the space, the introduction of dark colours and exposed wood was an exciting and welcome suggestion.

Perfectly tailored to the space, the layout features a one-wall kitchen including floor-to-ceiling units on either side of the lower run of cabinets where the sink is positioned. A large island, central to the design, provides substantial storage and seating, fostering a social and inviting atmosphere. The cabinets are stained in medium oak, enhancing the natural grain and adding warmth to the room. The 5810 Black Tempal surface flows seamlessly throughout the kitchen, topping the island, cabinetry run, splashback and shelf above the sink, tying the design elements together with its sophisticated and textured appearance. Soft mineral deposits subtly veil the charcoal black base of the surface, creating a complex composition that captures granular textures just like real stone.

The decision to use 5810 Black Tempal was driven by a keen design sensibility. Robert Nye, Designer at Herringbone House, explains: “The clients and I chose 5810 Black Tempal because of its organic look. Its natural charcoal tones and warm white hues evoke the look of volcanic sand dunes, adding a unique and elegant touch to the space.” Nye continues: “5810 Black Tempal strikes a beautiful balance between the grain finish of the oak-stained cabinetry and the clients’ desire for a stone top that complemented the black appliances.”

In a muted room with concrete floors throughout, the kitchen cabinetry brings the necessary warmth and texture to the space, making it feel like fitted furniture rather than standalone pieces. A white worktop would have been too stark in this setting, whereas 5810 Black Tempal provides the perfect harmonious contrast.”

Mor Krisher, Head of Product Design at Caesarstone, agrees and adds: “‘Dark colours are a rising trend in interior design. Bold and dramatic, they can have within them so many different nuances, tones and tactilities that give them different character. We look for inspiration everywhere and in order to design a series of products that truly captured the trend for dark interiors and kitchens, we turned our attention to the outside world, to the desert landscapes where natural stones are scorched by day and frozen by night, weathered by this endless cycle to produce the most wonderful patinas and textures.”

Looking back on his choice of worktop, Nye shares: “Caesarstone is a reputable brand, renowned for its durable surfaces and beautiful designs. The brand also offers a lifetime warranty on its products, proving their quality.”
