# Case Study: A tranquil family kitchen that blends past and present design influences

Caesarstone’s 6131 Bianco Drift lends sleek, contemporary appeal to this serene, Scandi-inspired family kitchen.

Before renovating, this Edwardian home offered plenty of space and historic charm – but had a tired, outdated kitchen. Mia Spencer, interior designer and CEO of [House By Mia](https://www.housebymia.com), was tasked with transforming this space into a clever family hub.

The client selected bespoke walnut cabinetry, adorned with brass hardware, and topped with [Caesarstone 6131 Bianco Drift surfaces](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/catalogue/6131-bianco-drift-mineral-worktop/) – a key element that enhances both the space’s function and aesthetics. It forms the generous worktops and extends into a full-height splashback, creating a continuous and contemporary look.

The goal was to create a warm and calm, welcoming heart of the home. It’s a space for family living – cooking, casual dining, socialising, and entertaining.”

The clients wanted the space to feel open and not overcrowded. As such, Mia included a range of open shelving, which displays vibrant books and characterful crockery. These allow for plenty of storage without cluttering the kitchen, further fitting the calm, Scandi aesthetic they aimed to achieve.

This juxtaposition offers the best of both worlds – the cosiness of traditional style and the crispness of contemporary design all in one space. The Bianco Drift surfaces channel the latter, with its misty grey hue and sleek, glossy texture. Additionally, the delicate light brown swirls throughout blend beautifully with the warm wood cabinets, forming a harmonious material palette.

“Quality materials were very important to the client,” says Mia. “We love the natural look and feel of Caesarstone surfaces, coupled with their excellent durability. We use Caesarstone in our projects all the time, always confident in the material quality and longevity.”

It’s no secret kitchens are a highly busy place for families, and the worktop – more than any other part – really takes the brunt of this. Caesarstone surfaces are [all sustainably made with longevity](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/sustainability/) in mind, and as such, come with a [unique Lifetime Warranty for residential applications](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/warranty/).
