Every design decision was a collaboration between client and designer, creating a warm, welcoming space that could grow with the family - including two teenagers and a much-loved dog - for years to come. From the outset, the kitchen was a key priority - envisioned as a welcoming, multi-purpose hub for family life. The design needed to feel open and connected, yet refined, with hardworking materials that could handle everything from casual breakfasts to dinner parties. Durability was important, but so too was a sense of enduring beauty, with every detail carefully chosen to stand the test of time.
The biggest challenge lay in opening up the back of the early 1900s property to create an expansive kitchen, dining, and living area. Structural changes were essential to achieving the desired sense of space and light, but care was taken to ensure the new extension remained in tune with the home's historic character. The kitchen design played a role in this balance, with Tom Howley Shaker-style cabinetry in two tonal shades of grey, complemented by a classic Neptune dresser in a darker, contrasting colour.
When it came to selecting the worktops for the island and cabinetry, and a matching splashback, Calacatta Nuvo was the natural choice for the family and Fox Interior Design, tying the two-coloured scheme together. Featuring a soft white base traced with elegant, wide grey veining, Calacatta Nuvo captures the movement and beauty of natural marble while offering a more consistent and practical alternative.
