Set within a spectacular Grade II* listed house in Surrey, this kitchen features a blend of warm oak cabinetry and striking orange Valchromat accents, with Caesarstone 4033 Rugged Concrete surfaces.

This robust grey design is flushed with white-haze patinas and industrial-inspired imperfections. It forms the generous worktops and extends into a full-height splashback, creating a continuous and contemporary look.

“The project is situated in a heritage property, Long Wall, originally designed by Leslie Gooday OBE in 1962,” explains Ollie Clark, Designer and Project Manager at Alistair Fleming Design. “This home is renowned for its unique blend of materials, including copper roofing, birch wood, brick, and cast concrete – creating a seamless integration with the natural woodland setting of St. George’s Hill. The property has undergone a meticulous restoration to preserve its architectural integrity while incorporating modern functionalities and aesthetics.”

The clients desired a compact and clean-lined kitchen that would resonate with the home’s original architectural themes. They requested unfinished copper reveals, reflecting the copper elements of the building's roof, and a seating area designed to enhance social interactions and offer views of the surrounding woodland – ensuring a connection with nature.

The 4033 Rugged Concrete surfaces were carefully selected to mirror the building’s cast concrete elements. “We love Rugged Concrete’s industrial aesthetic and resemblance to lunar surfaces,” says Clark. When designing this worktop, Caesarstone’s approach was revolutionary. The brand’s design team, led by Mor Krisher, took an interpretative approach – referencing a watercolour painting of the moon. Mor explains: “the painting really captured the rugged nature of the moon’s surface. We were looking at a 2D image which the artist had brought to life in 3D through the use of the most wonderful, deft brush strokes. The mix of whites, greys and blacks was so subtle. It really informed our thinking and helped set the benchmark for what we wanted to achieve.” The result is a dramatic and organic-looking advanced material surface that is unique in the market.

Clark continues: “Rugged Concrete also beautifully reflects the property's original architectural language, particularly the cast concrete pillars in the adjoining living area. Caesarstone is also stain and scratch resistant, meaning it will maintain its pristine appearance over time – even with regular use.”

As such, Caesarstone surfaces are each crafted with durability in mind. Championing a 'buy once, buy well' philosophy, all designs come with a unique Lifetime Warranty for residential applications to give you added peace of mind that your worktop will stand the test of time, even in the busiest of homes.
