When interior stylist and content creator Lisa Dawson (@_lisa_dawson) redesigned the kitchen in her Victorian terraced home in York, her goal was to create a space that felt open, light-filled and deeply personal. Central to achieving this vision was her choice of Caesarstone 4011 Cloudburst Concrete, a soft, concrete-inspired surface that delivers both durability and understated warmth, bringing together contemporary design, vintage character and long-term performance in one cohesive scheme.

Having managed frequent previous renovations, Lisa approached this project with clarity and confidence. This was not just a kitchen update; it was a considered transformation of how the space functioned, felt, and connected to the rest of the home.

Reworking the Brief: Space, Light and Function

By reconfiguring the footprint - opening up the utility space, removing the chimney breast, and rethinking the connection to the courtyard - Lisa achieved a kitchen that feels significantly larger and more cohesive.

The design brief extended beyond spatial planning. As someone who cooks, entertains, and creates food content, Lisa needed a kitchen that worked hard but also looked beautiful on camera. A balance of durability, texture and warmth was essential.

“It was important to me to have both a hardwearing concrete look worktop and natural wood… I love the contrast.”

A Natural Choice: Returning to Caesarstone

caesarstone-lisa-dawson-cloudburst-concrete-03Lisa’s decision to specify Caesarstone again was rooted in experience. Nearly a decade earlier, she had installed Caesarstone 5131 Calacatta Nuvo in her previous home, a surface that proved its value over time.

“It looked just as good when we sold the house as it did when it was installed… I knew that I could rely on the quality of the Caesarstone brand.”

That long-term performance left a lasting impression. In her previous kitchen, the worktop had remained a constant through multiple aesthetic updates, effortlessly adapting to changing colours and styles.

“Amidst all the transformations, one element always stayed the same: my Caesarstone worktop.”

This sense of reliability and design flexibility made Caesarstone the natural choice for her new home; aligning perfectly with her philosophy of investing in materials that stand the test of time.

Expert Guidance: From Showroom to Specification

While Lisa came into the project with strong brand confidence, the specification process was shaped further by hands-on support from the Caesarstone team.

Caesarstone London StudioA visit to the London showroom allowed her to experience the surfaces in person; an important step in selecting a finish that would work harmoniously with the wider material palette.

“I visited the studio in London to make a decision… Justyna Heyer, the showroom co-ordinator, was so helpful and informative.”

It was also here that Lisa was introduced to Caesarstone’s newer material innovations, including the brand’s ICON advanced fusion surfaces and the proprietary crystalline silica-free technology behind them. With expert guidance from the Caesarstone team, Lisa was able to fully understand the performance and design benefits, ensuring her choice was both informed and future-facing.

“I didn’t know anything about the ICON fusion surfaces before I visited the studio, but Justyna was great in explaining it in detail.”

This combination of tactile experience and technical insight played a key role in refining her final selection.

The Surface Selection: Why Cloudburst Concrete

caesarstone-lisa-dawson-cloudburst-concrete-04For her York kitchen, Lisa selected Caesarstone 4011 Cloudburst Concrete, drawn to its soft, mottled appearance and tactile matte finish.

The choice was both aesthetic and practical. In a relatively compact space, she wanted a light-reflective surface that would enhance brightness, while still delivering depth and texture.

“I was keen to stick to white as the kitchen is a small space and I wanted to reflect the light.”

Unlike polished surfaces, the matte finish offered a more natural, understated look that perfectly complemented the walnut cabinetry and vintage wooden elements throughout the space.

“It was really important to me that it had a matt finish… I wanted it to feel cohesive with the natural wood.”

Cloudburst Concrete delivers the visual softness and gentle tonal variety of poured concrete, while offering the durability required for a hardworking kitchen; particularly important for a space used daily for cooking, dining and content creation.

Designing with Contrast and Character

caesarstone-lisa-dawson-cloudburst-concrete-05Beyond the surface, Lisa’s kitchen is a carefully curated mix of old and new. Contemporary cabinetry sits alongside vintage finds, including a repurposed dresser turned workbench, now the heart of the room.

Fully tiled walls, warm walnut tones, layered lighting and collected objects all contribute to a space that feels lived-in and authentic rather than overly designed.

“The best kitchens have character and personality yet still function perfectly without being too utilitarian.”

This layered approach reflects a broader design ethos: investing in timeless “anchor” elements, like the worktop, while allowing flexibility elsewhere.

Evolving the Surface: Cloudburst Concrete becomes an ICON

Lisa’s choice of Cloudburst Concrete also speaks to a wider evolution within Caesarstone’s material innovation.
Now reimagined with ICON technology, Cloudburst Concrete incorporates approximately 85% recycled material content and is produced using Caesarstone’s advanced Crystalline Silica-Free (CSF) formulation. This marks a significant step forward - retaining the aesthetic and performance qualities Lisa values, while responding to growing demand for more sustainable surfaces.

Crucially, this innovation isn’t just technical. It’s supported by clear, accessible guidance from a supportive team that helps homeowners confidently navigate new material developments, as Lisa experienced during her showroom visit.

“I mixed vintage and new pieces to keep it sustainable… and chose items that I knew I’d love forever.”

Her approach to sustainability is holistic: reusing existing kitchen elements, incorporating vintage furniture, and making considered, long-term material choices.

A Kitchen Designed to Last

Lisa’s finished kitchen is warm, light-filled and unmistakably personal. By opening up the layout and carefully balancing materials, Lisa has created a kitchen that feels both functional and inviting; designed for everyday living as much as visual storytelling.

At its core is a surface that quietly underpins the entire design: durable, versatile, and timeless.

In choosing Caesarstone once again - this time Cloudburst Concrete - Lisa has reinforced a simple but powerful principle: invest in quality, and it will carry your home through every evolution that follows.
