Caesarstone 5121 Layalite worktops were selected for this elegant galley kitchen blending classic refinement with modern sensitivities.

In a classic Victorian townhouse in Richmond, south-west London, kitchen maker Barr Kitchens and design studio House Nine crafted a kitchen scheme that perfectly marries traditional elegance with modern functionality, with 5121 Layalite worktops at its core.

The clients, a family of five, emphasised the need for a durable yet visually appealing space that could handle the hustle and bustle of everyday life with young children and a pet. Moreover, they were keen to create a kitchen that blended seamlessly with the home's historic architecture while incorporating contemporary features.

Its durability and ease of maintenance ensure it can withstand meal preparations and accidental spills, while adding to the classic Victorian townhouse’s charm, the sophisticated ogee edge profile is paired with timeless shaker cabinetry, creating a refined atmosphere.

Sam notes: “The kitchen is located on the ground floor of the townhouse, where the long, narrow layout needed to feel light and bright. The galley style allows the cabinetry to perform functionally and visually, without disrupting the flow of the space.”

Enhancing the airy ambience, the Layalite worktop flows into a splashback on both sides of the galley kitchen, with matching slim-cut shelving supported by Corston antique brass brackets, offering visual continuity across the room.

Jonathan Stanley, VP of Marketing at Caesarstone, comments on the design: “Stone splashbacks are a rising trend in kitchens, and Caesarstone is at the forefront of providing timeless options that blend functionality with aesthetics. A splashback needs to be durable and resistant to stains, as it often comes into contact with cooking splatters and spills. Heat resistance is crucial, especially when the splashback is located near the hob, oven or range cooker.” He continues: “Aesthetically, the splashback should complement the overall kitchen design, coordinating with elements such as the cabinetry and worktops.”
