Caesarstone 5003 Piatra Grey worktop surfaces bring contemporary elegance to this Chelsea, London shaker-style galley kitchen.

Wellness content creator and founder of the Superhuman app, Mimi Bouchard, and her fiancé, Ben Darby, share a charming maisonette in Chelsea, London. Recently, they took on an ambitious galley kitchen renovation, transforming the dated space into one that resonates with their personal aesthetic: luxe traditional with sleek, moody touches. Mimi fell in love with [Caesarstone’s 5003 Piatra Grey](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/catalogue/5003-piatra-grey/) – a smooth slate with chalky white veining – which brings a contemporary feel to the classic shaker-style cabinetry.

Mimi shares, “our kitchen transformation was comprehensive. We undertook a full strip-out and replacement without making structural alterations. The challenge lay in reimagining the space to enhance its functionality and aesthetic appeal, all while working within the existing footprint. It was a meticulous process of selecting materials that complemented the property’s character, while also ensuring that every element is in harmony with our tastes and lifestyle. We opted for a classic look that exudes modern elegance through the use of dark and natural tones.”

![Caesarstone Piatra Grey worktops and splashback](https://blog.caesarstone.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/caesarstone-mimi-bouchard-02.jpg?width=1440&height=960&name=caesarstone-mimi-bouchard-02.jpg)Throughout the kitchen, sand-coloured cabinetry by Tom Howley is complemented by warm oak herringbone flooring. 5003 Piatra Grey was selected as the worktop and splashback for its ability to combine moody glamour with the utmost practicality. Mimi explains, “Caesarstone’s Piatra Grey has a remarkable resemblance to natural stone, featuring subtle veining that adds depth and character to the space, while being durable and highly practical for everyday use. This surface helps to distinguish our kitchen from typical traditional, white shaker designs, giving it a unique and contemporary feel – which is exactly what we wanted for the space.”

She adds, “our decision to go with Caesarstone was influenced by their reputation as the industry leader in [premium quartz surfaces](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/caesarstone-quartz/). Their commitment to quality, innovation, and design excellence made them a natural choice for us. We were drawn to their vast selection of designs, but it was the reliability and trust we had in the Caesarstone name that ultimately sealed our decision.”

Constantly observing the beauty of the outside world, the brand's creative journey is marked by a deep exploration of organic materials, architectural elements, and expertly forecasted trends. These efforts ensure that each surface is not merely a product but a work of art, seamlessly blending aesthetic appeal with unparalleled durability. Created to last a lifetime, even when fitted in the busiest of kitchens, Caesarstone surfaces come with a [unique Lifetime Warranty](https://www.caesarstone.co.uk/warranty/) for ultimate peace of mind.

An antiqued mirror from OKA sits above this dining area, maximising light flow in the narrow space and adding vintage charm. The premium appliances throughout are by Miele, with hardware by Armac Martin. The result is a compact yet luxurious hub for cooking and gathering, that marries traditional design with dusky, dramatic details.
